The National Science Foundation (NSF) Office of Cyberinfrastructure (OCI) coordinates and supports the acquisition, development and provision of state-of-the-art cyberinfrastructure resources, tools and services essential to the conduct of 21st century science and engineering research and education. NSF defines 'cyberinfrastructure' as: "Infrastructure based on distributed computer, information, and communications technology."

OCI supports the training and education of current and future researchers, educators, and engineers who use cyberinfrastructure in their research and education through its grants, awards, publications, and other resources. OCI also supports cyberinfrastructure and cyberenvironment project management tools and related services, such as supercomputers, high-capacity mass-storage systems, system software suites and programming environments, scalable interactive visualization tools, and more.
