World Space Week

World Space Week is held each year from October 4-10, and is observed around the globe through educational and informational events intended to inspire future generations and inform both the public and government leaders about space exploration. And what great timing - this year's World Space Week happened to fall during the week that LCROSS impacted the moon in a search for water ice. View images and video of the impact from early this morning and stay up-to-date on the latest scientific findings to come from this mission at the LCROSS website. That's just one way to observe World Space Week; check out the World Space Week website for more info and for ideas on how to educate others about space and space exploration throughout the year.

NASA Glenn Research Center's role in the latest images from the Moon

NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) has been successfully transmitting high-quality images since arriving at the Moon in late June. Those images are being sent with greater efficiency thanks to communications hardware - a traveling wave tube amplifier - provided by the Glenn Research Center.

While LRO will help NASA to better understand the Moon's composition and topography, the primary goal of LRO is to conduct research in preparation for future lunar exploration by scouting for safe landing sites and locating potential resources. Learn more about the communications hardware provided by Glenn and the LRO mission and its accomplishments.

"Why Mars?" in the June issue of IEEE Spectrum

Check out the June issue of IEEE Spectrum - it includes articles and podcasts about plans for return to the Moon and Mars, and talks about the why and how of both efforts, with a focus on Mars. NASA users can also check out other sections and past issues of this publication two ways: either at the IEEE Spectrum website, or through IEEE Xplore via the "Quick Links" on the Glenn Science & Engineering Library (GSEL) website. NASA users will have full text access to previous articles and access to podcasts covering aerospace, fossil fuels, robotic exploration, astrophysics, telecommunication, biomedical information, and more! NASA users, contact GSEL at 3-5761 or 3-5778 for more information.
